DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – A four-hour lighting delay and three days of nearly-constant rain left the LPGA International Hills Course unplayable Tuesday, and the Georgia Southern women's golf team wound up third at the Sun Belt Championship.
The Eagles shot their lowest round of the season with a 292 Sunday and were in third place after the first 18 holes. Georgia Southern maintained that position yesterday before today's round was washed out.
Coastal Carolina (-14) shot 10-under Monday, the only team to shoot under par, and moved ahead of Texas State (-6) to win the team title. The Eagles were third, followed by South Alabama and Troy.
It's the Eagles' third consecutive third-place finish at the event, and Georgia Southern has finished fourth or better in four of the five Sun Belt Championships that have been held since the school began its women's golf program.
Four Eagles placed in the top-25 with
Savanah Satterfield (+1) leading the way after tying for 10th, her best finish as an Eagle.
Alberte Thuesen (+2) tied for 12th for the 11th top-20 finish in her 12 career collegiate starts.
Ella Ofstedahl (+5) capped her career with a tie for 17th, her 23rd career top-20 finish, and
Emma Bell (+6) tied for 25th, her best finish of the season.
Abby Newton (+11) tied for 38th in her first Sun Belt Championship.
Satterfield tied for the tournament lead with 10 birdies and finished second in par-5 scoring, while Bell was second in par-3 scoring.
