State Evens the Series with Walk Off Win

ATLANTA, Ga. – Georgia Southern baseball fall in extra innings on Friday evening in Atlanta, 7-6 on a walk off single to left field. The Eagles fall to 13-12 overall and 4-4 in conference play, while the Panthers improve to 6-22 and 2-3 in conference play. 
 
The Panthers would jump out to an early 3-0 lead, scoring a run in the first three innings of the ballgame. The Eagles would being to chip away in the fourth, when Mason McWhorter worked his way around the bases on wild pitches.
 
In the fifth, Jarrett Brown tripled to right center to score Austin Thompson from second. Georgia State would respond with a three spot in the bottom of the fifth to take a 6-2 lead. In the sixth the Eagles strung together some hits as Christian Avant singled up the middle to score McWhorter. Parker Biederer drew a bases loaded walk and Brown grounded into a fielder's choice error to score two more runs. 
 
The game remained tied through the 10th inning, when Georgia State would single in the bottom half of the frame to walk off the game. Ben Johnson falls to 1-3 on the season, working the final inning and a third. The Eagles pitching staff struck out 13 Panther batters and allowed 12 hits.
 
The Eagles and Panthers will meet for the rubber match tomorrow afternoon from the GSU Baseball Complex. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.

  • Chase Dollander struck out six batters in his four inning of work, not factoring into the decision.
