STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern baseball improved to 6-5 on Sunday afternoon, sweeping the Towson Tigers Sunday, 6-5 at J.I. Clements Stadium. The Tigers fell to 1-9 on the season.
Jaylen Paden picked up his first victory of his career on Sunday, pitching in relief and working one and a third scoreless innings. The freshman, walked one batter and struck out two. Ben Johnson made his first collegiate start on Sunday, working five innings of six-hit baseball. He walked one batter and struck out a career-high six, before being pegged with the no-decision.
The Eagles opened up the scoring in the bottom of the second, as Jason Swan flied out to right field to score Christian Avant. Towson would respond with a run of their own in the third, before the Eagles regained the lead on a Noah Searcy single to left field in the bottom half.
In the fourth the Eagles added some insurance, as Austin Thompson drew a walk with the bases loaded. Towson responded in the fifth to take the lead, before the Eagles scored two on a Noah Ledford double to the gap. The Tigers would push level in the seventh with a run of their own.
In the bottom of the seventh Jason Swan would lead off the inning with a single to left. He would work his way all the way to third on wild pitches, before scoring on the third wild pitch of the inning. Nick Jones would work the final inning and a third to pick up his third save of the season and second in as many nights.Â
