STATESBORO - Georgia Southern sophomore
Nadja Meier has been named the Sun Belt Conference's Women's Tennis Player of the Week, announced Wednesday by league officials.
Meier helped the Eagles to a perfect 3-0 week as the sophomore went 3-0 in singles action and 2-1 in doubles in her six matches. The Potsdam, Germany, native won all three of her singles matches in straight sets, including two against Sun Belt Conference foes. She knocked off Mercer's Alana Hollyfield, 6-4, 6-0, on Wednesday in Georgia Southern's 4-0 win over Mercer. Meier then defeated Mathilde Tranberg of Coastal Carolina, 6-1, 6-3, in the Eagles' 4-0 win over the Chanticleers on Saturday. She finished the week with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Ksenia Aleshina of App State in Sunday's 4-1 win over the Mountaineers. She has now won seven of her last eight matches in singles.
Meier also teamed with
Paula Boixader to help the Eagles earn doubles points against Mercer and against Coastal Carolina.
This is the second career Sun Belt weekly honor for Meier, who was also the league's Player of the Week on February 12, 2020. She is the only Georgia Southern women's tennis player to earn the league's weekly honor since the Eagles joined the Sun Belt in 2015.Â
Meier and the Eagles are next in action on Friday, traveling to Atlanta to take on Georgia State in a 10 a.m. Sun Belt Conference match against the Panthers.
