Dollander's Career Day Takes Series from Appalachian State

STATESBORO, Ga. - Freshman Chase Dollander struck out a career-high 13 Appalachian State Mountaineers on Saturday afternoon en route to a 10-2 series clinching victory over the Mountaineers. The Eagles improve to 12-9 on the season and 3-2 in conference play, while Appalachian State falls to 10-11 on the season and 3-2 in conference play.

Dollander improved to 3-1 on the season in his sixth start, working six innings on the mound. The freshman allowed two hits and no runs, while striking out 13 batters. Quinton Martinez was pegged with the loss, allowing six hits and four runs on Saturday.

Georgia Southern jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning when Noah Ledford homered to center field to score a pair. Noah Searcy would follow up a few batters later, singling to right and scoring Christian Avant to make it 3-0.

The Eagles would add to their lead in the sixth when JP Tighe flied out to right field and Ledford scored from home. Jason Swan drew a bases loaded walk to score and the Eagles extended their lead to 5-0. Appalachian State would breakup the shutout in the seventh, doubling to the gap to score a pair of runs.

GS would respond in the bottom of the eighth with two more runs of their own, as Austin Thompson doubled down the line in left to score Swan from first. Ledford added to his three RBI day with a single to left center. 

The blue and white will look for the sweep against the Mountaineers tomorrow afternoon at J.I. Clements Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
