MOBILE, Ala. - South Alabama swept a Sun Belt Conference women's tennis matchup from visiting Georgia Southern on Saturday, winning 7-0 over the Eagles.
The Jaguars improved to 9-4 overall and 4-0 in Sun Belt action, while Georgia Southern fell to 8-8 overall and 1-3 in league play. The Eagles will wrap up their weekend Alabama swing on Sunday, taking on Troy at 11 a.m. from Troy, Ala.
South Alabama won the doubles point by taking wins at the bottom two doubles spots. The Jaguars then clinched the match with straight-set wins at the top five singles spots.
Elizabeth Goines won her first set against Diana Monsalve at No. 6 singles, but ended up losing a third-set 10-point tiebreaker.
"South Alabama is a very disciplined team, and so very patient," Georgia Southern Head Coach
Sean McCaffrey said. "They played exceptionally well today and simply did not allow us to collect our footing. I'm hoping this match inspires us to recognize the many facets of our game that we need to focus on in our training. But for now, we are on to Troy tomorrow."
