STATESBORO, Ga. - Mason McWhorter hit for the first Eagle cycle since 2011, when Shawne Payne hit for the cycle against Kennesaw State, as the Eagles defeated UAB 15-4. Chase Dollander improved to 2-0 on the season, recording six strikeouts in his five and one-third innings of work.
Georgia Southern started the day on the attack, as McWhorter homered for the second day in a row on his first at bat. The Eagles tacked on four more in the bottom of the second as McWhorter tripled to get the two hardest parts of the cycle out of the way. Christian Avant hit his first home run of the season in the third on a two-run home run to left center.
The Eagles would continue to pile on the runs throughout the game, scoring in every inning except the eighth. UAB would score three in the fifth and one in the ninth to finish the game 15-4. Georgia Southern will go for the sweep tomorrow afternoon, with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
