MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. - Georgia Southern baseball scored 15 runs in two innings to defeat College of Charleston 18-6Â and earn the first win of the season. The Eagles improved to 1-3 on the season, while Charleston falls to 2-2.Â
The Cougars took the lead in the bottom of the second, as Trotter Harlan doubled down the line in left to score a pair. The Eagles responded in the top of the third, erupting for nine runs, highlighted by a two-run home run by Mason McWhorter.Â
McWhorter didn't stop there, homering in the top of the fourth, this time a three-run shot to center field. The Eagles tacked on six more runs in the fourth, as Noah Ledford homered to right center field to go back-to-back with McWhorter.Â
Jay Thompson earned the win in relief for the Blue and White, working two innings of one hit baseball. Thompson also recorded one strikeout, improving to 1-0.

- Christian Avant went 4-for-5 from the plate, scoring two runs and collecting four RBIs on two doubles. Avant also scored on a single to center that went through the center fielders legs, for a faux inside the park home run.

The Eagles will return home to the friendly confines of J.I. Clements Stadium to host No. 22 East Carolina University. Last season the Pirates swept the Eagles in Greenville, North Carolina. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
