Mercer Holds Off Men’s Basketball 77-68

MACON, Ga. – Felipe Haase scored 25 points, and Mercer shot 47 percent from 3-point range to earn a 77-68 men's basketball win over Georgia Southern Saturday afternoon in Hawkins Arena.

Eagles of the Game 
Kamari Brown scored 14 points, collected a season-high nine rebounds and added three steals, and Elijah McCadden finished with 14 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals. Andrei Savrasov tallied 10 points, six rebounds and three steals, and Carlos Curry scored eight.

Key Moments
Georgia Southern whittled down a 17-point, second-half deficit to 68-63 on a McCadden jumper with 2:16 to play. The Eagles forced a Mercer turnover on their next possession but could not capitalize at the other end and turned it back over with 1:38 to play. Shawn Walker, Jr. drew a foul and made both ends of a 1-and-1 to extend the margin to seven points with 1:22 left, and Mercer went 7 for 8 from the charity stripe the rest of the way to seal the win.

Mercer (7-4) made 7 of 13 shots from long distance in the first half and led 37-30 at halftime. The Bears scored 10 straight points over a 1:37 stretch early in the second half to open a 51-34 cushion. Jalen Johnson, who finished with 15 points, scored five during the run, and Georgia Southern (5-4) turned it over three times at the other end.

Stats and Notes
- It was Mercer's second straight win over the Eagles.
- The Bears held a 10-4 edge in 3-pointers and made 21 of 22 at the free-throw line, including 17 of 18 in the second frame.
- It was Mercer's fifth straight victory.
