STATESBORO - Georgia Southern redshirt freshman forward Elis Nemtsov and sophomore center back Sade Heinrichs have been named the Sun Belt Conference's Women's Soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, announced by the league on Tuesday.
This is the first time since joining the league in 2014 that Georgia Southern has swept the weekly Sun Belt women's soccer awards.
Nemtsov tallied a goal in each of Georgia Southern's two wins last week. She scored from the spot in Thursday evening's 2-1 win over Troy, then tallied the game-winning goal in Sunday's 2-0 victory at ULM. The Bradford, Ontario, native now has eight goals this season, which ranks third in the Sun Belt and 23rd in NCAA Division I, and half of those goals have come against Sun Belt opponents. This is her second weekly honor of the season - she was also the league's offensive Player of the Week on September 21.
Heinrichs, meanwhile, played all 180 minutes at center back for the Eagles in the two wins last week. The Monchengladbach, Germany, native helped limit the Sun Belt's leading goal scorer, Courtney Marten, to just one shot in Sunday's 2-0 shutout win at ULM. Heinrichs has played in every minute in 12 of 14 matches this season and has been a huge part of Georgia Southern's 0.83 team GAA and five shutouts. This is her first career Sun Belt weekly honor and she is the first Georgia Southern field player to earn defensive weekly conference honors.
Nemtsov is the first two-time weekly league honoree since Nora El-Shami was twice the Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week in 2015. Heinrichs is only the third Eagle to earn Defensive Player of the Week honors from the Sun Belt, joining goalkeepers Jocelyn Springer (Sept. 18, 2018) and Lauren Karinshak (August 29, 2017).
The Eagles begin a three-match homestand on Friday, hosting Texas State in Sun Belt Conference action at.6 p.m. at Eagle Field.
