Mercer's Late Tally Drops Eagles Saturday

STATESBORO, Ga. – Ousman Jabang finished a bouncing ball in the box in the 89th minute to defeat the Eagles 3-2 on Saturday at Eagle Field. Mercer improves to 5-6-1 on the season, while the Eagles fall to 4-9-0.

Adam Davie opened the scoring in the 12th minute when the Bears were whistled for a handball in the penalty area. Davie converted on the penalty kick, scoring in the bottom right to lead 1-0. In the 38th minute Dylan Gaither scored off a free kick set piece, as Angel Gonzalez served the ball into the box and found the right foot of Gaither.

Jabang would tally his first goal of the night in the 42nd minute, as Gonzalez once again assisted on the goal. The Bears would take the lead into the break, leading the shot totals 8-2. The Eagles would continue to trail until Jacob Green-Pederson would draw a penalty in the 85th minute.

Davie would capitalize on the penalty for his second goal of the night and fifth of the season. The Eagles and Bears were destined for overtime before Mercer created a chance in the 89th minute. "That was a tough one to take after creating so much over 90 minutes. The kids were devastated in the locker room post game and I feel for them. But we must move on and place our focus on MAC games starting this Thursday."
