
Swimming & Dive Defeats UNF Behind Strong Swimming Performances

STATESBORO, Ga. - On Saturday afternoon in Statesboro, the Eagle Swimming & Diving squad hosted North Florida for the first of two meetings against the Osprey this season. GS will host UNF on Feb. 6 to conclude the 2021 regular season and begin preparations for CCSA Championships.
The Eagles would defeat UNF 152-128 on Saturday afternoon at the Recreation Athletic Center.
In the pool, GS was strong and took first and second in the 200 Yard Medley Relay to open the afternoon's events. Emma Scruggs, Annamaria Hornyak, Tori Rucker and Melissa Cox took home the top spot in the event, swimming a relay time of 1:47.21.
In the 1000 Yard Freestyle Kat Niemann and Emily Jones scored second and third, respectively, posting times of 10:56.04 and 11:13.94. Emma Scruggs continued her dominance in the pool, taking home the top spot in the 100 Yard Backstroke swimming a time of 58.94.
In the 100 Yard Breaststroke, the Eagles went 1-2-3 in the standings as Annamaria Hornyak, Abby Schoppa and Kat Niemann all finished within seconds of each other. Jessica Ware added to the first place finishes with a 200 Yard Butterfly victory, while Melissa Cox won the 50 Yard Freestyle.
In both the 1 meter dive and 3 meter dives, Katie Knight and Anya Weber took the top two spots. The Eagles will conclude the 2021 season on Feb. 6, as they host North Florida for the second time in as many weeks.
