Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Eagles Clipped by Mountaineers on Sunday

STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern women's soccer fell to Appalachian State 3-0 in the Sun Belt Conference opener on Sunday afternoon in Statesboro. The Eagles fall to 0-2-0, 0-1-0, while the Mountaineers improved to 1-3-0, 1-1-0.

The Eagles and Mountaineers opened up the match, trading quality chances as both Sallie Newton and Kerry Eagleston had to make saves on their goal line to keep the game scoreless. A few minutes later in the first half, Mary Perkins opened the scoring for the Mountaineers, in the 29th minute. With time winding down in the first half, Olivia Cohen scored her first goal of the season, after a scramble in front of the net found its way across the goal line.

Early in the second half, the Eagles were whistled for a hand ball in the box, which would turn into the second goal of the afternoon for Mary Perkins and the third of the day for the Mountaineers on a penalty kick. Sallie Newton was credited with two saves and was replaced by Sara Story in the second half.

The Eagles will continue this short home stand with a match against the Mercer Bears Thursday night at Eagle Field. Kickoff is set for 7 PM.
