Georgia Southern opens the 2020-21 season at the Scenic City Collegiate, hosted by Chattanooga. It's the first event for the Eagles since winning the Colleton River Collegiate March 3.
Teams will have six players in the lineup and count four scores each round. Each team will play in threesomes within their own team to lessen contact tracing in event of COVID-19 issues, no volunteers or spectators are allowed on the course and coaches will enter scores for live scoring.
Tuesday's final round will be televised on ESPN3 from 12:30-2:30 p.m.
"We are very excited to get our year started, especially at a golf course like the honors course," said Georgia Southern coach Carter Collins. "This has been a long wait since our season was canceled last March, but we are extremely proud of the team for keeping their heads up and working as hard as they have since March. Since we returned to school, the team has put their foot on the gas to prepare for our first event. This will be a long year full of learning and growing opportunities, and we cannot wait to begin our journey in Chattanooga. G.A.T.A.!"
Seniors Brett Barron and Jake Maples are playing a fifth season after the NCAA granted an extra year of eligibility to all spring sport student-athletes because of COVID-19.
Barron makes his 32nd career start this week and has been in the lineup in the last 13 tournaments, and
Ben Carr makes his 19th start in the lineup for the Eagles. Maples makes his 12th start in the lineup, and
Colin Bowles will be in the lineup for the 9th time in his career.
Mason Williams plays in the lineup for the 14th time in his career, and
Wilson Andress will make his 12th start.
Following the trip to Tennessee, Georgia Southern is slated to play in the Graeme McDowell Invitational, hosted by UAB at Greystone Golf and Country Club, Sept. 29-30.
