Georgia Southern student-athletes honored for work in the classroom
Each month, the Georgia Southern Student-Athlete Services Department hands out its Student-Athlete of the Month, presented by Georgia Army National Guard, which recognizes students who are working just as hard in the classroom as they are on the field of competition. What is the best way for you to balance your academic and athletic lifestyle?
The best way that I balance my academic and athletic lifestyle is by keeping a schedule. I make sure at the beginning of the week that I know what I have ahead of me, so that I can be prepared to get things done and to do them well and on time.
Why did you choose Georgia Southern University to further your education?
I chose Georgia Southern because school and swimming were not the only important things on the agenda for my plan as a student-athlete. I was convinced and Georgia Southern has proven to me that over the years I have become a more developed leader and a more confident student-athlete that is well prepared for the real world. The community and friendships that I have built over the years have had more impact on my student-athlete career than anything else.
What are your career aspirations?
After graduating this May, I will be working an internship with Wipfli-PKM, an accounting firm in downtown Atlanta. I have been accepted and enrolled in the Masters of Accounting Program at Georgia Southern where I will return in the fall to hopefully earn my CPA and them transition into a full-time accounting staff position. My long-term goal is to become a partner in a firm and/or leader in business.
When it comes to striving to do your best in the classroom, who is the biggest motivator in your life?
My biggest motivation for doing my best in the classroom is my family. I am the first collegiate athlete in my family and the first to really move away from my comfort zone for college, so I want to make my people at home proud!
What are your pre game/competition rituals if you have any?
I don't have very many things I feel like I need to do, but I always look forward to spending time with my team mates at and during the meet because they are what makes competing so fun!
