
Roumpis named Sun Belt Athlete of the Week

NEW ORLEANS – Georgia Southern men's tennis freshman Alexandros Roumpis was voted Sun Belt Conference Men's Athlete of the Week Wednesday after going 3-0 in singles and 2-1 in doubles over the past weekend.
The Athens, Greece, native defeated Matt Carroll (UNF) 3-6, 6-2, 6-3, Ben Abdallah-Skander (SCSU) 7-5, 6-1 and Sebastian Harris (GWU) in singles from the four position. He added another pair of doubles wins with partner Diego Finkelstein against Patrick Kotan/Joe Ellis (UNF) 6-4 and Ben Ali-Selim/Geraldo Bonifacio 6-1.
Roumpis now boasts a 6-2 singles record and a 3-6 doubles record in his freshman season.
As a team, the Eagles suffered a 3-4 loss at North Florida before beating Gardner-Webb 4-3 and South Carolina State 4-0 at home.
The honor is the second straight of the 2020 season for the Eagles after Pascal Wagemaker won it Jan. 29.
The Eagles host a doubleheader Saturday with Kennesaw State at 9:00 a.m. and USC-Upstate at 3:00 p.m.
