Women's Tennis Looks to Stay Unbeaten at Home

Georgia Southern Plays FGCU Friday and Presbyterian Saturday

STATESBORO – The Georgia Southern women's tennis team closes out its five-match home stand against Florida Gulf Coast and Presbyterian at the Wallis Tennis Center in hopes of remaining undefeated at home in 2020.

Action against the FGCU Eagles begins at 2:00 p.m. Friday with the match against the Blue Hose set for 1:00 p.m. Saturday.

Last time out:
The Eagles (4-1) dominated USC-Upstate 7-0 but had its match against the College of Charleston postponed due to rain. The rescheduled match will now be on March 7 at 2:00p.m. This past Wednesday, freshman Nadja Meier was voted Sun Belt Conference Women's Athlete of the Week after going a perfect 4-0 in two singles and two doubles contests over the weekend as the Eagles defeated Kennesaw State and USC-Upstate. The Potsdam, Germany, native becomes the first Eagle to receive the honor since joining the conference in 2015.

FGCU Series history:
The series is tied 1-1 after only two meetings in the last decade between Eagles. FGCU won 7-0 in 2017 and GS won 5-1 in 2011 in the first contest.

Presbyterian Series history:
The Eagles hold a comfortable 9-1 lead in the series and have won the past six straight. Georgia Southern also won the first meeting 6-3 in 1979 and won 4-3 in 2017 in the most recent matchup.

About FGCU:
The FGCU Eagles (2-4) have had an up-and-down season in 2020 with wins over South Alabama and FAMU and losses to Kentucky, Miami (OH), FAU and USF. They also had a match against FIU cancelled.

About PC:
It has been a rough start for the Blue Hose (0-5) having lost every match by way of a shutout. This will be the third time this season PC has played outside the state of South Carolina and the first outside of the Carolinas as a whole.

What head coach Sean McCaffrey said:
"It's been a couple of weeks since we had the chance to compete and the weather has not cooperated a whole lot, but that has not stopped is from putting in the work in whatever way we can. We know we have a couple of strong programs coming in this weekend and we fully intend to make the most of this opportunity."

"Florida Gulf Coast is a predominately ranked team which is well coached. Presbyterian has a new coach and has always fielded strong teams. I believe both matches will allow us to continue to grow and improve. We will just have to be hopeful with the weather."

Up Next:
Following the weekend slate, the Eagles return to the road for matches against North Florida Feb. 28 and Mercer March 1.
