DAYTONA/DELAND, Fla. – The Georgia Southern men's tennis team traveled to Bethune-Cookman and Stetson Saturday for a pair of matches where they came away 1-1 in the first road action since Feb. 1.
The Eagles (8-6) got past the Wildcats (1-4) in the morning match by a final score of 4-1. In the match, BCU took the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead. The Eagles answered back with singles wins by
Murphy McCullough,
Diego Finkelstein,
Alexandros Roumpis and
Neil Kandhai to seal the deal. The win increased the team's winning streak to six matches.
After a short drive to Stetson, the Eagles winning streak would end 2-5 in a tough one against the Hatters (5-2). Stetson claimed the doubles point and then went on to win the first three singles points to clinch it. The Eagles managed to produce two team points from singles wins by
Pascal Wagemaker and
Diego Finkelstein.
What head coach Sander Koning said:
"Stetson played sloid and we made too many errors. We didn't have the focus that I have seen throughout the semester and our fundamentals broke down because of it. It's a good learning opportunity for this team to improve going forward."
