LAFAYETTE, La. - Louisiana shot 73% from the field in a 27-point first quarter to come away with a 72-60 Sun Belt Conference women's basketball victory over visiting Georgia Southern on Saturday afternoon at the Cajundome in Lafayette.

The Eagles fell to 8-16 overall and 5-8 in the Sun Belt, while Louisiana improved to 14-10 overall and 7-6 in the league.

The Ragin' Cajuns hit 11-of-15 shots from the floor in the opening period against the Eagles, including their first five three-point attempts, in building a 27-14 advantage after the quarter.

The Eagles cut the advantage to eight points, 36-28, at halftime and got to within six points, 58-52, with six minutes left in the fourth quarter. The Ragin' Cajuns scored the next two baskets to push the lead back to 10 and close out the victory.

Quotables
Head Coach
Anita Howard on the quick start by the Ragin' Cajuns
"They shot lights out in the first quarter, so that hurt us going into the second. We did a decent job in the second quarter, but in the second half, we played a little bit too slow. We weren't intentional about getting stops and baskets. We just kept waiting Louisiana to give us the game and that wasn't going to happen. Tonight was not an offensive night, we needed our defense, because defense has to travel. We allowed them to do what they wanted to do. I don't think we stopped anything we wanted to stop."
