STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern baseball exploded for a 15-run first inning to take the series from Ball State in the second half of Saturday's double header. The Eagles improved to 3-0 on the season, while Ball State falls to 0-3.
David Johnson picked up his first win of the season pitching five innings, allowing four hits, no runs and striking out eight. Mike Pachmayer was pegged with the loss after not recording an out in the first inning for the Cardinals.
The Eagle bats picked up where they left off in game one, erupting for 15 runs, on 12 hits in the frame. GS batted around two times in the inning and through the first two times around the order, six Eagles scored twice. The 15 runs in the first inning were the most since 2007 and the Eagles were one shy of tying a school record in an inning.
Georgia Southern will go for a sweep tomorrow morning against Ball State at 11 a.m. The Eagles will send
Rhett Gay to the mound.
