STATESBORO - Georgia Southern women's basketball announced its non-conference 2020-21 schedule and conference start times today. The Eagles will open up the 2020-21 season on Wednesday, November 25, with a 3:00 p.m. contest at Jacksonville State.
The Eagles will have one other road contest - on Saturday, November 28 at Augusta - before their home opener in Hanner. Georgia Southern will host Furman on Thursday, December 3, at 6 p.m. in its 2020-21 home opener.
There are three more non-conference games currently scheduled as well, including the Eagles hosting Coastal Georgia on Saturday, December 12. Game time will be decided once the game time of Appalachian State vs. Georgia Southern football has been set.
The Eagles will also travel to Atlanta, to take part in Georgia State's 2020 Holiday Classic on December 20 and 21. Georgia Southern will face Chattanooga on Sunday, December 20, at 3 p.m. The Eagles will then take on Western Carolina on Monday, December 21, at 1 p.m.
"I'm super eager to finally be able to hit the hardwood with outside competition," Georgia Southern Head Women's Basketball Coach Anita Howard said. "With such a young group, we have had to master the ability to be excited about the process of intense practice daily. Going hard and getting 1% better is challenging. Now we will have an opportunity to see how we fare against another opponent other than ourselves. Win or lose, we are building strong bonds on and off the court. We are growing comfortable knowing that it is a long and tedious period of preparation behind the scenes that matter! This season will be one to watch!"
Sun Belt Conference play begins on January 1 for the Eagles. The first Sun Belt games at Hanner Fieldhouse for Georgia Southern will be on January 8 and 9, taking on Appalachian State. Friday Sun Belt games will be at 6 p.m. this season, with Saturday games taking place at 4 p.m.
All game times and dates are subject to change.
To align with guidance put in place by Georgia Governor Brian Kemp, and following NCAA, Sun Belt Conference, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Georgia Department of Public Health and University System of Georgia social distancing standards due to concerns around the COVID-19 pandemic, Georgia Southern will begin the season with a limited capacity in Hanner Fieldhouse. Season tickets are available through the Georgia Southern Ticket Office for 2020-21 Women's Basketball and can be purchased via phone at 1-800-GSU-WINS or by visiting GSEagles.com/tickets.
Social distancing will be maintained throughout the arena to the fullest extent possible, including limiting court access in accordance with Sun Belt and NCAA recommendations, and face coverings must be worn by all fans, staff and media members when inside Hanner Fieldhouse.
