NEW ORLEANS – Georgia Southern men's tennis junior Pascal Wagemaker was voted Sun Belt Conference Men's Athlete of the Week Wednesday after an impressive showing against The Citadel and Clemson this past Sunday.
The Zuid-Scharwoude, Netherlands, native defeated Noah Nawabi (Citadel) 6-2, 6-1 before besting Teofor Giusca (Clemson) 6-4, 7-6, (8-6) in singles from the three position. He added another win in doubles with partner Jonathan Morales. The team won 6-3 against the team of Phillip Quinn and Nawabi of the Citadel.
The honor is the first for the Eagles since former men's tennis athlete and current assistant coach Stefano Di Aloy received the same recognition in Feb. 2019.
The Eagles recently postponed Wednesday's scheduled home match with Mercer to Feb. 12 due to weather. The team is set to face North Florida in Jacksonville, Florida, Saturday. Georgia Southern will then host Gardener-Webb and South Carolina State Sunday at the Wallis Tennis Center.
