Georgia Southern plays in its final in-season tournament of the year when the Eagles travel to the Tennessee Classic this weekend. GS will face North Dakota State Friday (3:30 p.m.) and take on host Tennessee (12:30 p.m.) and ETSU (5 p.m.) Saturday. The match against the Lady Vols will be broadcast live on the SEC Network+.

The Eagles have lost their last two and are coming off a 3-2 setback at North Florida Tuesday in the first five-set match of the season. Carly Turner led Georgia Southern with 11 kills and added three blocks, and Skylar Ball tallied 10 kills and three blocks in her first match of the season. Madison Brown posted 41 assists and 15 digs, and Landon Jones recorded 16 digs.

Mya Wilson ranks eighth in the Sun Belt in hitting percentage (.298), and Maddie Bryant ranks seventh in kills (3.62 per set). Brown ranks fourth in assists (10.21 per set). The Eagles rank fifth in hitting percentage as a team (.214) after finishing 11th in the conference in 2018 and eighth in each of the previous two seasons.

North Dakota State has won its last two matches, and the Eagles own a 2-0 all-time mark against the Bison, including a 3-0 win in Hanner Fieldhouse last season. The Eagles meet Tennessee for the first time, and the Lady Vols are coming off a 3-0 loss at No. 5 Baylor last Saturday. GS is 11-16 all-time against ETSU, an old Southern Conference rival. The Bucs posted a 3-0 win in the last meeting, which came in 2016 on a neutral floor. ETSU won two of three matches at the UAB Tournament last weekend and is coming off a 3-2 loss to UAB.

Following the weekend, Georgia Southern opens conference play with a pair of matches in the Carolinas. GS takes on Coastal Carolina Sept. 27 and faces Appalachian State Sept. 29.
