STATESBORO, Ga. – Coach
Brian Dunleavy announced Wednesday the Eagles' 2019 women's soccer schedule. The regular season will consist of 18 games with eight of those being at home on Eagle Field. The Eagles will play 10 Sun Belt teams and eight non-conference teams.
"I'm really excited about this seasons schedule," Coach Dunleavy said. "We are playing against a few programs we've never played before, which is fun and exciting. I think we'll be challenged in our non-conference portion which will be great preparation for the Sun Belt."
The pre-season will consist of a game against Mississippi State (Aug. 15, 5 p.m.) in Columbus, Georgia, and an exhibition against Jacksonville (Aug. 18, 2 p.m.) in Statesboro.
Following the pre-season exhibitions, the regular-season will kick off on Aug. 22 with the Eagles traveling to College Park, Maryland, to play the Maryland Terrapins. The Eagles will travel to Savannah to take on The Citadel on Aug. 25 at 6 p.m. at Armstrong State Soccer Field.
Southern will then head to Gardner-Webb to take on the Runnin' Bulldogs on Aug. 30 at 7 p.m. Two days later, the Eagles return homw to host Presbyterian on Sept. 1 at 1 p.m.
A stretch of three away matches will follow with the Eagles traveling to Stetson to play Sept. 5 at 6 p.m. and Davidson on Sept. 8 at 1 p.m. The final game in the away series will be played just up the road in Athens against the Georgia Bulldogs on Sept. 12 at 7 p.m. Southern will return home for one last non-conference game against UAB on Sept. 15 at 1 p.m.
Sun Belt Conference play will open at Coastal Carolina on Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. The Eagles will host 2018 Sun Belt Champions, the Little Rock Trojans, on Sept. 22 at 1 p.m. Georgia Southern will then travel to Boone, North Carolina, to take on Appalachian State on Sept. 29 at 1 p.m.
The Eagles will kick off October playing at Troy on Oct. 6 at 2 p.m. before coming home to host another Alabama team, South Alabama, on Oct. 11 at 7 p.m.
That game against South Alabama will kick of the last stretch of home games for the season. Southern will take on in-state rival Georgia State on Oct. 13 at 1 p.m., Arkansas State Oct. 18 at 4 p.m., and end the regular home season with ULM on Oct. 20 at 1 p.m.
The Eagles will finish out the season on the road with games against Louisiana on Oct. 25 at 8 p.m. and 2018 regular-season champion, Texas State, on Oct. 27 at 2 p.m.
The Sun Belt Conference Tournament will be held in Foley, Alabama, Nov. 6-10.
The Eagles will face two teams that played in NCAA postseason last year. Mississippi State lost to Lipscomb in the first round while Little Rock lost to Arkansas in the first round.
