Steven Curry goes 4-for-4 to match a career-high while Owens deals to win his fourth
SAVANNAH - Georgia Southern took a 3-1 win over the College of Charleston on Wednesday night at Grayson Stadium in Savannah. The Eagles got four hits from junior Steven Curry as he matched a career-high. Tyler Owens went seven innings, allowing just one run to improve to 4-0 on the season. The Eagles head to Appalachian State this weekend for a three game conference series against the Mountaineers.
SCORING INNINGS
BOT 1st | COFC 0 - GS 1 | Steven Curry opened the game with a leadoff double on the second pitch of the bottom of the first. The junior scored later in the inning off a Tyler Martin double down the left field line.
BOT 2nd | COFC 0 - GS 2 | Matt Anderson reached with one out in the second off an error by the Cougar first baseman and went first to third on Curry's second double of the game. A wild pitch allowed the junior to score and double the Eagle lead.
BOT 5th | COFC 0 - GS 3 | A leadoff hit from Curry in the fifth came around to sting the Cougars on a sacrifice fly by Tyler Martin.
TOP 7th | COFC 1 - GS 3 | The Cougars got a run back in the seventh inning as Owens began to labor. Back-to-back singles put runners aboard for Charleston, but it was a ground ball to third with runners on the corners that got the visitors off the mark and cut the lead to 3-1.
NOTES
- Owens earned is second win this season over the Cougars. He has gone seven innings in all four wins. The junior from Sylvania scattered seven hits and fanned four.
- Nolan Tressler's 15 game hit streak came to an end when the sophomore went 0-for-3.
- Mason McWhorter had a 1-for-4 game to push his hit streak to 14 games, the longest active run for an Eagle.
