Eagle Baseball Rolls Past Coastal Carolina in Series Opener, 9-2

Georgia Southern returns to first place in Sun Belt East Division with the win

CONWAY, S.C. - Georgia Southern Baseball put Coastal Carolina to the sword on Thursday, downing the Chanticleers 9-2 to open the Easter Weekend series. The win was Georgia Southern's third-straight at Springs Brooks Stadium and extended Coastal's skid to four-straight, their longest since 2014. The Eagles and Chanticleers are back in action on Friday for game two of the series.

SCORING INNINGS
TOP 2nd | GS 2 - CCU 0 | Nolan Tressler connected with a hanging 0-2 slider to crush his third home run of the season into the Eagle Bullpen in right field. The two-run job plated Austin Thompson who reached on a one out single through the left side.
BOT 3rd | GS 2 - CCU 1 | The Chanticleers got a run back in the third inning, cutting the Eagle lead in half.
TOP 4th | GS 3 - CCU 1 | A leadoff single by J.P. Tighe set the table for an Eagle run in the fourth to plate an insurance run. Mason McWhorter doubled down the right field line to drive the run in and extend the lead.
TOP 8th | GS 6 - CCU 1 | The Eagles tacked on three more in the eighth, converting Tressler's leadoff double with a pair of sacrifices to plate the run. As the lineup flipped, Steven Curry got his first hit of the day, opening the door for McWhorter to destroy a home run to center, pushing the lead to 6-1. A strong-armed Coastal Carolina fan returned the ball to the infield with a one-hop frozen rope from beyond the wall.
TOP 9th | GS 9 - CCU 1 | Noah Ledford hit his ninth home run of the season to the left side of the wall in center, pushing the lead to 7-1. Jason Swan doubled down the left field line and scored off Thompson's humpbacked liner through the left side. Curry drove in Thompson with a single through the left side to complete the three-run frame.
