STORYLINES
- Georgia Southern opens league play this weekend with a trip to face UT Arlington. The Eagles have won three of their four league-opening series since joining the Sun Belt in 2015. The road swing to open league play is the first since 2016 when the Eagles swept App State on a cold weekend in Boone.
- Georgia Southern had an early lead over Georgia Tech on Tuesday night, but dropped the 7-6 result to the Yellow Jackets for their 10th straight loss against the Institute.
- Georgia Southern leads the all-time series with UT Arlington 10-4 and took three of four last season. In both trips to North Texas since joining the league in 2015, the Eagles have dropped the opener, but won the final two games.
- Among the many tools in his kit, Steven Curry has shown a knack for wearing pitches. In his 127 career games with the Eagles, Steven has been hit 50 times to rank fifth in school history, only eight behind J.R. Revere's career total. In 2019, Curry has been hit eight times with five coming in the finale of a weekend series.
- In the series finale against UNC Asheville, Noah Ledford hit a pair of leadoff home runs in the fifth and seventh innings. His fifth inning bomb cleared the Blue Monster in right, while the seventh inning blast exited in the right field power alley.
- Georgia Southern hit three home runs in the seventh inning on Sunday against UNC Asheville to hang a snowman against the Bulldogs. The Eagles got the big inning off seven hits, six going for extra bases. The last time the Eagles scored eight in an inning was March 2nd, 2014 against Ohio. The Eagles scored eight off four hits and just one home run. A freshman in 2014, Ryan Cleveland stole home in the game.
- After a suboptimal first outing to the season when he lasted just three innings, allowing seven runs off five hits, Seth Shuman has bounced back with three quality starts in his last three outings. The junior took hard-luck losses against West Virginia and Georgia, allowing one run to the Mountaineers and two to the Bulldogs while only getting one run of support to fall to 0-3. Against UNC Asheville, Shuman scattered four hits for his first win of the year. In his last two outings, Shuman has set a new career-high with 11 strikeouts in both games. He now leads the league in Ks with 35.
UP NEXT

Tuesday's game against the Bulldogs is set for 6:30 p.m. in downtown Charleston. The midweek double concludes on Wednesday evening in North Charleston at 6 p.m. against the Buccaneers.
