Junior was the second-leading scorer in the league in 2018-19
STATESBORO - Georgia Southern junior guard Alexis Brown has been named to the 2018-19 Sun Belt Conference All-Sun Belt Second Team, announced today by league officials.
Brown finished the 2018-19 season for the Eagles as the second-leading scorer in the Sun Belt Conference, averaging 17.4 points per game. The Madison, Ga., native nearly doubled her scoring output from her sophomore season (9.0 ppg) and her 506 total points scored this season were the most for a Georgia Southern women's basketball player in more than 25 years (533 points, Gwen Thomas, 1991-92).
She scored in double figures in 27 of 29 games this season, including 10 games of 20 or more points and a pair of 30+ point performances - a career-high 34 points vs. Troy on Jan. 19 and 31 points in a 65-55 Eagle win at Texas State on Jan. 26. Brown was a two-time Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week honoree this season (Dec. 18, Jan. 21) and in addition to ranking second in the league in scoring, also ranked fourth in steals (2.0 ppg), fifth in three-point baskets made (2.2 3pt per game), fifth in minutes played (33.1 mpg) and sixth in free throw percentage (82.0%).
Brown joins Patrice Butler (2017) and Angel McGowan (2016, 2017) as previous Eagles to earn All-Sun Belt Conference honors. She will return in the 2019-20 season needing just 67 points to become 24th 1,000 point scorer in Georgia Southern women's basketball history.
