Eagles Take Both Matches In Doubleheader

Men's Tennis advance to 9-4 after wins over KSU and BCU

STATESBORO, Ga - The Georgia Southern Men's Tennis team had a great day at home with two big wins today during doubleheader. The Eagles won their first match against the Kennesaw State Owls, 4-3. The Blue and White also took their second modified match against Bethune-Cookman, 4-1. The Men's Tennis team advances to 9-4 on the 2019 season.

The Eagles came out on top after one of the closet matches so far of the 2019 season against the KSU Owls. The Blue and White gave up the doubles point and one singles set early on but were able to tie it back up with Pascal Wagemaker winning his match, 6-2, 6-4 and Stefano Di Aloy following right behind winning, 6-2, 7-5. After giving up one additional point, the Eagles were determined to send the Owls home empty handed. Diego Finkelstein knew what needed to be done to tie the match back up and won his match, 6-7, 7-5, 6-4. It all came down to Murphy McCullough and his match against against KSU's Lucas deTorres Curth. McCullough held his own at No. 4 singles and took his match, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6, allowing for an Eagle win.

The Eagles moved on to their second match of the day against Bethune-Cookman, which was a modified match. Because of a lack of players from the opposing team, the match was concluded when the score for the Eagles hit 4-1.

WHAT HEAD COACH SANDER KONING SAID
"It was a tough day. We made it ourselves more difficult than it needed to be, but the guys showed a lot of heart and it is good to have a win like that in your memory banks. We will address doubles and figure out a way to get better."
