
GS Swimming & Diving Fourth After Second Day Of CCSA Championships

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Georgia Southern swimming & diving team sits in fourth place, just one point out of third, after the second day of competition at the 2019 CCSA Championships on the campus of Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va.
The host Flames lead the field with 790.5 points, while defending champion Florida Gulf Coast is in second with 648. Incarnate Word (485) edged out the Eagles (484) for third with two more days of competition remaining. UNC Asheville (313) is fifth, followed by Campbell (298.5), Gardner-Webb (265), North Florida (240) and Howard (203).
"Our divers did a great job with 3 getting into finals," Georgia Southern Head coach Amanda Caldwell said. "Great racing of our relay tonight as well. I was proud of our 500 and IM swimmers for swimming smarter races to move up in spots [Morgan] Fleming & Anna Moers won their heats tonight in the 50. All in all generating a lot of good momentum going into tomorrow."
The first event of the day was the 500 Freestyle, where Randi Kiser was the Eagles' top performer, earning 15 points by finishing the B-final in a time of 5:04.96.
The 200 IM was the next event and Courtney Schaefer paced the Eagles by finishing sixth, earning 27 points with a time of 2:04.67
The 3-Meter Diving event followed and the Eagles had three divers finish in the top eight. Hannah Mudge finished sixth with a score of 236.85, while Sara Rogers finished seventh with a score of 230.90. Gretchen Mossburg finished eighth with a score of 227.25.
The 50 Freestyle was next and the Eagles' top finisher was Anna Moers, who scored 22 points by winning the B-Final in a time of 23:40, her fastest collegiate time in the event.
The final event of the night was the 200 Freestyle Relay, and the Eagles finished fourth as the team of Mackenzie Brown, Anna Moers, Morgan Fleming and Courtney Schaefer swam a time of 1:34.50, earning 58 points.
Day three of the CCSA Championships begins on Friday with preliminaries at 10 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m. The events to be competed include the 100 Butterfly, the 400 IM, the 200 Freestyle, the 100 Breaststroke, the 100 Backstroke and the 400 Medley Relay.
