
GS Swimming & Diving Third After First Day Of CCSA Championships

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Georgia Southern swimming & diving team sits in third place after the first day of the 2019 CCSA Championships, hosted by Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va.
Weather forced teams to compete in an abbreviated schedule on Wednesday's first day of competition, as only three events took place on the women's side.
After day one, the Eagles have 162 points, trailing only Liberty (219) and Incarnate Word (171). Howard (122) is fourth, followed by Campbell (120), UNC Asheville (116), Gardner-Webb (110), Florida Gulf Coast (105) and North Florida (102).
"We're off to a good start with some season-best and lifetime-best swims," Georgia Southern Head Coach Amanda Caldwell said. "Diving also helped us get into third place at the end of the first night. The women have a lot of energy and enthusiasm, and we are looking forward to what is in store for the rest of the week."
The Eagles started the day by placing fifth in the 200 Medley Relay in a time of 1:42.89, as the team of Anna Moers, Bre Stuart, Courtney Schaefer and Mackenzie Brown earned 56 points.
The 1 Meter Diving event saw a pair of Eagles score points as Sara Rogers placed sixth with a score of 234.00, earning 27 points, while Hannah Mudge placed eighth with a score of 200.25, earning 25 points.
In the final event of the day, the Eagles placed sixth in the 800 Freestyle Relay as the team of Anna Rose Moore, Randi Kiser, Rachel Pelzek and Schaefer swam a time of 7:38.26, earning 54 points.
The CCSA Championships continue tomorrow with Day Two. Preliminaries begin at 10 a.m., with the Finals at 6 pm. Final events competed on Thursday include the 200 Freestyle Relay, the 3 Meter Diving, the 500 Freestyle, the 200 Individual Medley and the 50 Freestyle.
