Men and Women Combine to raise highest total in over four years
STATESBORO – The Georgia Southern men's and women's tennis teams combined to raise $2,209 in donations for cancer research over the month of November, over $700 more than their goal.
The goal of No-Shave November is to raise cancer awareness by forgoing shaving and embracing the hair that many cancer patients lose. Donating the extra money one would usually spend on grooming supplies to No-Shave November helps provide information and funds to cancer patients and their caregivers.
"I am very proud of the effort of both teams really going after it. We have been doing this initiative for four years now and it is the most we have raised since we started," head men's coach Sander Koning said. "I'd like to give a big shout out to the women's tennis team for helping us with this cause. We hope it brought some awareness to the cause and that the donations will help cure/prevent this disease in the future."
"The men's tennis team has been extremely active in their efforts over the past few years. We truly appreciate how dedicated they have been to raise funds for this cause," women's head coach Sean McCaffrey said. "When the guys asked the women's team to help, we were more than happy to join in. I think we all found it to be a great team effort."
Eagle Men's Tennis begins the spring season at Georgia Tech Jan. 12 while the women open against Florida A&M in Jacksonville Jan. 17.
