
5 Questions With Women's Basketball Senior Amira Atwater

The Georgia Southern women's basketball team is in the midst of preseason practice, and during the month of October, we're going to take a closer look at our six seniors with our 5 Questions segment.
Up first is senior point guard Amira Atwater. The Douglasville, Ga., native led the Sun Belt Conference in assists last season, while also earning her bachelor's degree in May in recreation. She is currently pursuing her master's degree in behavioral and social sciences.
Question 1: Why did you choose Georgia Southern University to play collegiate basketball?
"I liked that there was a family atmosphere surrounding the team. I liked how team interacted together, like sisters. And I also saw that we had the talent to become a championship team."
Question 2. If you weren't playing basketball, what other sport would you be playing collegiately?
"I would say track, because I'm kinda fast. But I don't really like running"
3. Who is the one person in your life that you look up to the most?
"My mother. In the last few years, seeing what she's had to deal with, including having cancer. And just how strong she is. I would love to be at least half the woman she is."
4. In a movie about your life, what actress would play you?
"Taraji P. Henson. She can play anybody. She's pretty good."
Question 5: What is a song, phrase or saying that you use to get through a particularly tough day?
"Tasha Cobbs, her song 'You Know My Name.' It's a gospel song. The first time I heard it, I was at church last year. And our season was kinda tough. I just heard it and I was like 'wow.' So before every game, I started to play it."
