SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Ben Carr shot a 71-72=143 Monday and is tied for 21st after the first two rounds of the Fighting Irish Classic at Warren Golf Course.
The Eagle men's golf team (+23) is in 14th place in the team standings, two behind 13th-place Toledo and 12 back of a three-way tie for seventh. Notre Dame (-14) leads its home tournament, and North Carolina (-7) is in second.
Carr's first-round, even-par 71 was keyed by an eagle on the 518-yard, par-5 5th hole, and birdies on 10 and 13. The sophomore played his first four holes of the second round 1-under and shot an even 35 on the front nine on his way to a 72.
Brett Barron also carded a 72 in the afternoon. The senior parred his first five holes of the round and played his final 11 holes 1-over with birdies on holes 3 and 10.

"Today was a tough grind. At this course, you need good control of your tee ball as well as approaches because of the thick and sticky rough. We didn't do a great job of doing that, and our scores reflected it. Two of our strengths are par-5 play and driving accuracy, and we will need to improve on both to climb the board tomorrow. The GRIT was there, and I think this whole team is excited to go out tomorrow and perform better."
