GS Softball Picked Seventh In Sun Belt Preseason Poll

Eagles receive 39 votes in the preseason vote of the league's coaches
STATESBORO - The Georgia Southern softball team has been picked to finish seventh in a preseason poll of Sun Belt Conference coaches, announced today by league officials.
The Eagles, who finished with a 28-25 overall record and a 12-15 mark in the Sun Belt Conference in 2018, received 39 points in the preseason poll, which is topped by defending Sun Belt champion Louisiana. The Ragin' Cajuns received 8 of 10 first-place votes and 98 points total.
Texas State is picked second, receiving one first-place vote and 88 points, while Troy is picked third, after receiving the other first-place vote and 82 points. UTA (62 points), Georgia State (59) and South Alabama (57) are next in the poll, followed by the Eagles. Coastal Carolina and UL Monroe tied for eighth in the poll with 27 points, with Appalachian State placing 10th with 11 points.
The league also released its 2019 Sun Belt Preseason All-Conference team. The Eagles did not have a player selected to the team by vote of the league coaches. Click here to view the complete 2019 Sun Belt Conference Preseason Release.
Under first-year head coach Kim Dean, the Eagles got out to a program-best 21-9 start in 2018, and also tied a school single-season record hitting 48 home runs. The team featured All-Sun Belt and NFCA All-Region third baseman Hannah Farrell, who leads a group of nine returners from last season's squad for 2019, and also recorded its first road win over a nationally-ranked team in school history with a 3-2 8-inning win at No. 22 Louisiana on April 21st. Georgia Southern finished the 2018 season with an RPI of No. 85, and went 11-10 against schools in the 51-100 RPI range.
