ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington hit 11-of-20 three-pointers and shot 53 percent from the field in picking up an 81-48 Sun Belt Conference women's basketball victory over visiting Georgia Southern on Kids Day in Arlington, Texas, on Thursday afternoon.

The Mavericks (13-5, 5-2 SBC) picked up their fifth win out of their last six with the victory, while Georgia Southern fell to 5-13 overall and 0-7 in the league with the loss.

In front of a packed crowd of elementary school and middle school students that made up the majority of the announced crowd of 6,186 in the College Park Center, UT Arlington opened the game on a 14-0 run, making five of its first six shots from the floor, including a pair of three-pointers.

The Mavericks finished the first quarter with a 25-7 lead and the Eagles could not climb back to within single digits for the rest of the contest.

Alexis Brown led the Eagles with 18 points, her eighth straight game reaching double figures, while Tatum Barber added 10 points. Brooke Alexander led a trio of Mavericks in double figures with 17 points.

Eagle of the Game
Junior Victoria Stavropoulos came off the bench to play a career-high 15 minutes, scoring four points but also notching a career-best five rebounds and three steals in her most extensive action of the season.

Key Moment
The 14-0 run to start the game staked UT Arlington to a large led, but the Mavericks had a similar start to the third quarter, getting out to a 10-0 start before a basket from Amira Atwater halted the run.

Stat of the Game
The league's top three-point shooting team, UT Arlington hit 5-of-8 threes in the first half in building its 22-point halftime lead and finished the game at 55 percent (11-of-20), while the Eagles struggled from long range, hitting just six of 28 shots from beyond the arc (21.4 percent).

Quotables
Head coach Kip Drown's general comments on the game
"I think the kids got them jacked up a little bit. I thought we did not execute the first quarter very well, against what they wanted to do with their pressure. The big thing is they scored 30 baskets with 24 assists. They have learned that to play this game at the very highest level, you have to hit people when they are open. That's still an area we are developing. Hitting open people. Until we do that, we're not going to get as good of looks as we need."

Next Up
The Eagles travel to San Marcos, Texas, to take on Texas State in Sun Belt Conference action on Saturday at 2 p.m.
