STATESBORO - Georgia Southern junior guard Alexis Brown has been named the Sun Belt Conference's Women's Basketball Player of the Week for a second time this season, announced today by league officials.
Brown had a career week for the Eagles in a pair of Sun Belt home games, averaging 24.5 points and 11.5 rebounds per game. The Madison, Ga., native hit for a career-best 34 points and 10 rebounds in Thursday's game against first-place Troy, tying a Georgia Southern single-game record by knocking down 8 of 10 three-pointers.
She followed that up with 17 points and a career-high 13 rebounds on Saturday against South Albabama. The two double-doubles on the week were the first double-doubles of her Georgia Southern career. Brown currently ranks second in the Sun Belt in scoring (17.1 ppg) and she has reached double digit scoring in every league game so far in 2018-19.
This is her second Player of the Week honoree this season - she earned the honor on December 18th. Brown is the first Georgia Southern women's basketball player to earn conference Player of the Week honors twice in a season since Anna Claire Knight was SoCon Player of the Week on Jan. 7 and Feb. 18, 2014.
