Head Coach John Murphy and his staff will host event on Sept. 21 at Paulson
STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern head men's soccer coach John Murphy and his staff will host the 3rd Annual Coaches Symposium on Friday, September 21st. This event, which will include a game ticket for Saturday evening's match against ETSU, will be held in the Gene Bishop Fieldhouse, located at Paulson Stadium.
"I'm very happy to announce our third coaches symposium for this fall; it seems like it was just yesterday that we hosted our first," Coach Murphy said. "This event is unique as it gives insights and methodology of an NCAA Division I program that would be valuable to coaches of all levels, and frankly, any team sport. Conversely, it allows us to connect further with coaches and administrators of all levels. Our relationships with the local soccer population is growing all the time, whether it is youth or scholastic, and this event helps us strengthen them once again. Additionally, we have started to get the student population on campus involved and that always adds a great deal of energy and new ideas. This symposium is another example of us giving back to the soccer community of South Georgia, and we hope to have a large group of coaches in attendance. It should be a great event!"
The coaching symposium, which costs $25.00 per coach, includes handouts of notes and methods as well as a raffle ticket for Adidas items and a match ticket to Saturday's 7 p.m. showdown with the Buccaneers. The symposium is open to both male and female coaches of any level. Any Georgia Southern student with a current student ID can attend for free. Club rates are also available for 10 or more coaches. The Friday night session will run from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
The event will give coaches in attendance the chance to learn insights from the only American-born coach to hold both the prestigious UEFA Pro Badge (Scottish Football Asssociation) and a Certificate of Applied Football Management from the University of Warwick (English Professional League Manager's Association) in Coventry, England. Murphy is an author of two books and two instructional DVDs, as well as being a well-known clinician nationwide.
The event will start with sign-in and registration at 6:30 p.m. in the Gene Bishop Fieldhouse on Friday night. Coaches traveling from out of state can contact the men's soccer staff for a list of select hotels in Statesboro via this email address: gsumenssoccer@georgiasouthern.edu.
