ATLANTA, Ga. - Georgia Southern softball scored twice in the top of the seventh inning to extend the game, but Georgia State led off the bottom half with a solo home run to take game one of a Sun Belt Conference series from the Eagles by a 3-2 score on Friday evening in Atlanta.
The Eagles (27-23, 11-14 SBC) and the Panthers (29-21, 13-10 SBC) will wrap up the regular season with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday.Â
"I'm proud at how our team continues to fight," Georgia Southern Head Coach Kim Dean said. "We had two absolutely huge pinch hits in the seventh to give ourselves a chance tonight. But we are looking forward to keep battling with them tomorrow."
Georgia State took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning on Megan Litumbe's two-out, two-run double. The Eagles were held in check until the seventh inning, when pinch hitter Sydney Fisher singled with two outs, and Mekhia Freeman followed with an RBI triple to make the score 2-1.
Pinch hitter Macy Weeks then singled in Freeman to tie the score at 2-all.Â
Georgia State's Remington Hasty then hit the second pitch in the inning from Kierra Camp (12-9) over the left field fence for the game-winner.
Camp gave up seven hits and three runs in six innings of work, walking two and striking out one for the Eagles. Reliever Amanda Chance (11-8) got the final out of the seventh to earn the win for the Panthers.
