STATESBORO, Ga. – For the first time, Georgia Southern and the Wallis Tennis Center will host a 2018 ITA Summer Circuit event. The Summer Circuit was created to provide college players the opportunity to compete in organized events year-round. The ITA Summer Circuit is currently made up of 49 events, over six consecutive weekends, beginning in mid-June and continuing through the last weekend in July.
"For us it will be the first time to have such a tournament on our campus," Head coach Sander Koning said. "We are very proud to host it and we will look to make it grow throughout the years."
The primary purpose of the Summer Circuit is to provide incoming freshman and collegiate players the chance to compete in the summer months, the events are categorized as "open" so that anyone (Including high level juniors and adults) can compete in these events. The ITA Summer Circuit is currently made up of 49 events over six consecutive weekends, beginning in mid-June and continuing through the last weekend in July.
All participants looking to compete in the 2018 ITA Summer Circuit must purchase an ITA Summer Playing Membership from the ITA website. Each membership is $30 and you will receive an email with all information and member ID.
Registration opens May 18th and will continue for the next couple of weeks. For more information or to register for the event please click here. All Summer Circuit events are open to all players on a first-come, first-serve basis. The Entry fee is $65 and include both doubles and singles. Each tournament director will have the ability to limit the number of registrants they will accept into the tournament and once that number has been reached UTR tournament management will add players to the wait list.
The ITA office will track points and post a "points race standings" each week on the ITA website. At the conclusion of the circuit, the top 5 men and top 5 women will receive an automatic entry into the ITA National Summer Championships, as well as a $600 travel reimbursement to be used towards the expense of attending the ITA National Summer Championships, hosted by TCU in Fort Worth, Texas.
