Box Score LAFAYETTE, La. - The No. 22-ranked Louisiana softball squad used a pair of big innings to claim a 9-0 Sun Belt Conference victory over visiting Georgia Southern on Sunday in Lafayette, La.
The Ragin' Cajuns (31-12, 16-5 SBC) take the series two games to one with the win, while Georgia Southern falls to 24-22 overall and 8-13 in the Sun Belt. The Eagles will return to Sun Belt play on Saturday, April 28, hosting Appalachian State in a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader that will also be Senior Day for the Eagles.
Louisiana batted around in the second inning, plating five runs on four hits, as well as a bases-loaded walk and hit batter. The Ragin' Cajuns then followed that up with a four-run third inning, highlighted by a two-run single by Kara Gremillion.
The Eagles' best chance to score came in the second as Mekhia Freeman led off the inning by reaching on an error, then Sydney Fisher followed with a single, but Louisiana starter Summer Ellyson was able to retire the next three batters to escape the jam.
Ellyson improved to 17-6 with the win, hurling four innings of three-hit shutout ball, walking one while striking out five. Kaylee Ramos (2-4) took the loss in the circle for the Eagles, giving up five runs and four hits in 1 1/3 innings of work, walking two.
