STATESBORO, Ga. – Sunday afternoon the Georgia Southern women's tennis team was back in action in Orlando, Florida at the USTA Courts. The Eagles would take on the Rutgers Scarlet Knights in the first of four matches during Spring Break. The Scarlet Knights started the afternoon off quickly winning on courts one and two to take the early 1-0 lead.
Rutgers continued their success at the beginning of singles play, pushing the score to 3-0 and putting the pressure on the Eagles. The Blue and White battled back winning on courts one, five, and six.
Arianne de Winter began the scoring for the Eagles with a 6-4, 6-3 victory in straight sets on court one.
Mila Hartig added the Eagles second point of the afternoon with a straight set victory 6-4, 6-4 on court six.
Charlotte van Diemen battled on court five with Maya Jacobs. Van Diemen took the first set 6-4 and would begin the second set up on Jacobs. Jacobs would take the second set 6-4 to push the match to a third set. Van Diemen would prevail and defeat Jacobs 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 in three sets to level the score at three all with the Scarlet Knights. Rutgers would go on to finish off the match and win 4-3, dropping the Eagles to 4-3 on the season. The Blue and White will be back in action Tuesday against Butler in Orlando, Florida.
