The Georgia Southern softball team travels to Gainesville, Fla. this weekend to participate in the University of Florida Aquafina Invitational, to face off against Iowa State, Illinois State, Maryland and the Florida Gators.
We sat down with one of the four team captains,
Meredith McLendon, to learn a little more about the Valdosta, Ga., native with 5 Questions.
Question 1: Why did you choose Georgia Southern University to pursue both you collegiate softball career and your degree?
"As soon as I stepped foot on campus it felt like home and I was apart of a family. I was automatically welcomed in, loved the campus, and our softball field. Everything was just so homey with a small yet big school feel… That really drew me in and I have loved being here."
Question 2: If you weren't playing your sport in college, what sport do you think you would be playing?
"Basketball, hands down. I had a few schools look at me for basketball, and if I could play both without the seasons or schedules conflicting, I would definitely do both."
Question 3: Who is one person in your life that you look up to the most?
"My grandfather. He passed a way a few years ago but he always pushed me. I wanted to pursue softball and sports because of him! I still look up to him, he's not here physically, but I know he's watching and still cheering me on."
Question 4: Do you have any superstitions or game day traditions that you can't break?
"I always have to listen to Fergalicious before every game. Ever since that song came out, I have to listen to it at least once the day of a game."
Question 5: What is a song, phrase or saying that you use to get through a rough day?
"One I say all the time is 'hope for the best, pray for the worst.' It keeps me going and reminds me to be realistic and know there is going to be bad times, but to expect it."
