Box Score 2 STATESBORO - The Georgia Southern softball team split a pair of games on the final day of the Eagle Round Robin, downing Austin Peay 4-2 before falling to ETSU 7-5 in the final game of the weekend.
In the opener,
Logan Harrell drove in two runs and Kayle Ramos picked up her first career save as the Eagles held on for the win. In the back end of the day, the Eagles rallied from down 2-0 with a pair of solo home runs, but four unearned runs in the sixth inning were their undoing in falling 7-5.
GS 4, APSU 2
The Eagles wasted little time in getting on the scoreboard, plating three runs in the first inning.
Alesha Mann walked and
India Davis reached on a bunt before
Logan Harrell ripped a double to the gap to drive in both runs.
Hannah Farrell then switched places with Harrell with a double of her own to make it 3-0.
The Governors finally got on the board in the fourth inning, scoring a run on an RBI single down the line. The Eagles that run right back in the bottom half of the inning when Mann's ground out plated
Haley Carter.
In the sixth inning, APSU got a run on a bases-loaded walk, but
Hannah Farrell snagged a line drive and tagged the runner off the bag at third base to turn the inning-ending double play and preserve a 4-2 lead.
In the seventh inning, reliever
Kaylee Ramos quickly retired the first two batters, but then walked three straight to make things interesting. In the end, she got a weak ground out to
India Davis at second base to end the game.
Carter, Coleman and Fisher all picked up three hits to pace the offense while Davis,
Logan Harrell and Farrell all had one.
In the circle,
Kierra Camp (W, 2-0) went 6.0 innings to pick up the win. She allowed two runs on three hits with two strikeouts against three walks. Ramos (S, 1) got the final three outs to pick up the save.
ETSU 7, GS 5
After a quick turnaround, GS took the field against ETSU and the Bucs struck early with a solo home run in the top of the first inning. It marked the first time the Eagles had trailed this season in four games. The Bucs added a run in the third inning.
In the fourth inning, junior
Hannah Farrell turned on a pitch and sent it deep to left field for her first home run of the season, cutting the lead in half.
Shelby Wilson tied it up with a solo shot to left in the fifth inning. The Bucs broke it open in the sixth inning, scoring three runs on a two-out throwing error by
Heather Felt, and then tacked on one more unearned run to make it a 6-2 game.
In the bottom of the inning, Farrell ripped her second home run of the season, a solo shot to left field, to make it 6-3. ETSU added one more run in the seventh inning before Harrell ripped a single to right field to plate Davis. With the bases loaded, Farrell plated a run with a sac fly, but the Eagles couldn't get the equalizer falling 7-5.
At the plate, Wilson had three hits while Farrell and Harrell both had two hits to lead the way while Carter, Davis and Mann all had one.
Freshman
Rylee Waldrep went 3.0 innings, allowing two runs on four hits with a walk and a strikeout. Felt (L, 0-1) went the final four innings, allowing five unearned runs on nine hits.
The Eagles (3-1) will head to Florida next weekend for the Madeira Beach Invitational, hosted by Eastern Michigan. GS is scheduled to play Jacksonville State, Monmouth, UMKC, Abilene Christian and EMU.
