STATESBORO, Ga. – Less than 48 hours removed from their first victory of the season, the Georgia Southern women's tennis team is heading back to Macon, Georgia to compete against the Mercer Bears.
"The women are excited about another opportunity to compete as we meet up with Mercer," Head coach
Sean McCaffrey said. "They are a well-coached and disciplined team that makes very few errors. We have a very young team so we are simply trying to improve our decision making, shot selection and quite simply slow he match down a bit so that we can maneuver through the match and play a more intelligent and efficient match. Our aim is to tidy a couple of things up in practice today and get on the road for a battle with Mercer tomorrow."
The Bears enter play Friday afternoon with a 1-0 record after defeating Alabama State 6-1 a week ago. Mercer finished the 2017 season with a 14-9 record and have not faced the Eagles since 2015, where the Blue and White won 5-2 in Statesboro.
Friday will be the first meeting of a home and home series with the Bears this season. The second and final meeting will be held Wednesday, April 4
th, inside the friendly confines of the Wallis Tennis Center. Friday's match will also end the short road trip to begin the season, as the Eagles will return to the Wallis Tennis Center for the home opener Saturday, February 10
th.
