Georgia State Posts 3-1 Win Over Eagle Volleyball

The Eagles play host to Georgia State in the season finale Friday.

ATLANTA – Madelyn Ott collected 15 kills and four blocks to lead Georgia State to a 3-1 Sun Belt volleyball win over Georgia Southern Wednesday night in GSU Sports Arena. 

Georgia State picks up half a point in the Southern vs. State Rivalry Series, and now leads 2.0-1.5. The loss also knocks the Eagles out of contention for the Sun Belt Tournament.

Skylar Ball had 12 kills and hit .240 for Georgia Southern (8-22, 2-13).

Key Moment
With the match tied 1-1, the Eagles erased a three-point deficit and tied the score 23-23 on a Maddie Bryant kill late in the third set. Ott answered with a kill for State, and Lauren Bandera served an ace to give the Panthers (7-18, 4-11) a 2-1 lead in the match.

Stat of the Match
Georgia State outblocked the Eagles 16-5 and held Southern to a .133 hitting percentage.

Next Up
The Eagles host the Panthers in the season finale Friday in Hanner Fieldhouse. First serve is set for 6:30 p.m., and GS will honor seniors April Luther, Julia Landavazo, Joscelin Morrow and Lauren Reichard prior to the match. Another half point will be on the line in the Southern vs. State Rivalry Series.
