Eagles knock off the No. 10-ranked DII Argonauts in final tuneup before Conference
PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Georgia Southern women's swimming and diving team defeated No. 10 (NCAA Division II) West Florida, 163-137, in a dual meet on Saturday morning at the UWF Aquatic Center in Pensacola, Fla.
The meet was the last tuneup for the Eagles before the CCSA Conference Championship meet on February 14-17 in Athens, Ga. Georgia Southern captured four dual meets during the 2017-18 regular season and also claimed a first-place finish at the Florida Tech Panther Invite in November, but will now turn its attention to the conference meet where the Eagles hope to improve on last season's fourth-place finish.
The Eagles and the Argonauts competed in 16 events on Saturday, with Georgia Southern capturing 10 of the 16. The strongest swim for the Eagles on the day was in the 100 Butterfly, where Georgia Southern went 1-2-3. Katie Knight continued her strong spring diving by winning the 1-meter event with a score of 236.24, while placing second in the 3-meter event with a score of 233.25.

"This was a great tune-up meet in preparation for our conference meet in February," Georgia Southern Head Swimming & Diving Coach Laura Thomas said. "West Florida was tough throughout the entire meet. We were behind after the 200 Breaststroke, but got a big 1-2-3 finish in the 100 Butterfly.
"Then our divers went 1 & 3 on the 3-Meter, our 200 IM swimmers went 1-3-5, which made it very tight going into the last relay," Thomas said. "Our first and third-place finish there got clinched the win. We had some really good swims and dives today and we're really excited to rest up and get ready for the conference meet."
