Get to know more about Ella Monsey
STATESBORO, Ga. – Over the last two weeks met each of the Eagles on the women's tennis team and learned a little bit more about each of the ladies. Our final Eagle is Ella Monsey, the senior and team captain of the women's tennis team this season. The Ipswich, Suffolk native joined the Eagles in 2016 after beginning her collegiate career at Long Beach State.
During her first season with the Eagles, Monsey won five matches on the year, playing primarily from the No. 6 position. Her and doubles partner Emilia Bujan won 11 matches during the season, while holding two, four match winning streaks. Monsey began the season 4-1 in doubles play and was named to the 2016-17 Sun Belt Commissioner's List.
First year head coach Sean McCaffrey, named Monsey team captain for her senior season. The lone senior will look to guide the Eagles back to the Sun Belt Tournament and build off of their first tournament victory last season.
"I am very proud that Ella will be representing the Eagles tennis program as team captain this spring," Coach Sean McCaffrey said. "Ella showed her strengths this fall as she proved her leadership abilities both on and off the court. I have no doubt in Ella's dedication and commitment in moving our program forward. The team captain plays a key role in helping establish comradery, communication, discipline and accountability within the program. Ella will do a fantastic job representing her teammates and Georgia Southern tennis as we strive for excellence in all that we do."
