Georgia Southern returns to the court after a 12-day layoff, which saw three matches get canceled and one postponed due to the inclement weather from Hurricane Irma. It's the second straight season the Eagles' schedule has fluctuated because of a hurricane. GS had three conference matches moved because of Hurricane Matthew in early October last season and had a 12-day layoff between matches.
The Eagles take on South Carolina at 4 p.m. Friday and meet Clemson (12:30 p.m.) and Texas Tech (4 p.m.) Saturday. GS is 0-3 against Clemson, 0-2 vs. South Carolina and 0-1 vs. Texas Tech.
Sophomore outside hitter Carly Turner's sister, Jesse, is a junior middle at South Carolina.
The Eagles are coming off a 1-2 performance in its home tournament, the Bash in the Boro, Sept. 1-2. GS topped North Florida 3-0 and fell 3-1 to Bethune-Cookman and Charlotte.
Freshman Skylar Ball was named to the all-tournament team after tallying 19 kills and 10 blocks in the three matches.Â
Cathrine Murray has 812 kills and is 164 away from cracking the top-10 on the school's career chart. Megan Chevalier has 639 career kills.
Following the weekend, Georgia Southern opens Sun Belt Conference play by playing host to Louisiana Friday, Sept. 22 and ULM Saturday, Sept. 23. First serve for both matches is scheuled for 6:30 p.m.Â
