Kirsten Barrett and junior outside hitter
Reagan Barth have been named the Sun Belt Conference's Setter and Offensive Player of the Week, respectively, this season with today's release of the weekly awards from the league.
Barrett continues her amazing senior season for the Eagles by notching her sixth weekly award from the Sun Belt. The Cleveland, Ohio, native tallied 66 assists and 24 digs in Georgia Southern's pair of wins over Coastal Carolina on the week, moving into second place in the Sun Belt East Division standings and marking the first time the Eagles have swept the Chanticleers in program history. She delivered 39 assists and 14 digs in Friday's 3-1 win over Coastal, then added 27 assists and 10 digs in Saturday's sweep of the Chants, stretching her streak of double-doubles to four and boosting her total amount of double-doubles this season to 11. The league's leader in assists per set this season (10.04) directed the Eagles to a stellar .259 hitting percentage on the week.
Barth, meanwhile, earns her first weekly honor this season from the Sun Belt and second career honor for averaging 4.0 kills, 3.57 digs and 0.86 blocks per set in the sweep of the Chanticleers. She hit .282 with 15 kills and 15 digs, both of which led the squad, in Friday's 3-1 win. The Lenexa, Kan., native then delivered another double-double with 13 kills and 10 digs in Saturday's sweep of Coastal. She led the Eagles in points on the week with 31.5 and Barth has now registered double digit kills in all 12 Sun Belt matches this season.
The pair of honors brings the total number of Sun Belt volleyball weekly accolades for the Eagles to 10, and Barth is the fifth different Georgia Southern student-athlete to earn a weekly honor, joining Barrett, Maddie Cugino, Alex Myers and Lydia Seymour.
Georgia Southern returns to action on Friday, visiting Georgia State for a 6 p.m. Sun Belt contest in Atlanta.
